WIDEBAND IP/SATELLITE GATEWAY OVERVIEW
The Avtec IP over Satellite Gateway transparently links distributed IP networks over high-latency or error- pronecommunication channels, such as satellite links. The Gateway provides precise IP packet delivery, regardless of the condition of the transmission channel. Powerful Forward Error Correction (FEC) and fixed window scaling prevent most are-transmissions, maximizing use of available channel bandwidth. The IP Gateway supports IP traffic at rates up to 150 Mbps. It can interface with the network via a serial High Level Data Link Control (HDLC) router port or a standard IP Ethernet port. Data streams are encapsulated in synchronized transfer frames using NASA?s most powerful forward error correction standards.
SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE
The Wideband IP/Satellite Gateway is based in a compact, rack-mounted 2U chassis. The system is controlled and monitored through a local or network-connected interface. The Gateway system contains a High Speed Serial Interface (HSSI), single or dual Gigabit Ethernet WAN interfaces, and an optional ATM WAN interface. The HSSI is based on Avtec?s successful line of turnkey satellite interface and control products that are deployed in support of NASA, NOAA and Department of Defense missions worldwide.
