ioNET COMMUNICATIONS GATEWAY OVERVIEW

ioNET is an advanced multiplexing / demultiplexing and network distribution system for high performance data acquisition applications such as satellite telemetry and command, flight test, remote sensing, and signals intelligence (SIGINT). ioNET
reliably delivers serial data, time, voice, and video over IP or ATM-based networks. Data from each channel is encapsulated into variable length packets and multiplexed into a network socket connection. Remote ioNET systems receive the data stream from the network and demultiplex it, perfectly reproducing the original data and time signals. The ioNET multiplexing algorithm provides low overhead, low throughput delay, and excellent time correlation between channels. ioNET provides the flexibility to route any input source to any destination on the network. An input source can also be routed to multiple destinations or to multiple output channels at the same destination.

HIGH-AVAILABILITY ARCHITECTURE

Based on the CompactPCI (cPCI) architecture, ioNET provides a high-performance backplane in a rugged form-factor. ioNET offers high availability with built-in redundancy for active system components such as system CPU boards, power supplies, and fans. ioNET also supports hot-swap for all active system components. Two ioNET base system configurations are available: the ION-1600 4U base system with single CPU and 5 I/O module slots and the ION-3200-RSS 12U base system with redundant CPU and 10 I/O module slots.

CPU MODULE

ioNET systems are equipped with either a single CPU Module or with dual, redundant CPU Modules in an active/standby configuration. The CPU Module performs all system configuration, data acquisition, and data routing functions. It contains single or dual 1 GHz Pentium III processors, 512 MB of RAM, a 10/100Mbps monitor and control Ethernet Port, and Dual Gigabit Ethernet data ports. Onboard storage consists of a 2.5" low-profile, board-mounted EIDE hard drive or

NETWORK INTERFACES

The CPU Module's dual Gigabit Ethernet ports are the primary interfaces for network data transfer, supporting auto negotiation, IEEE 802.3x-compliant flow control, and load balancing. The ioNET may also be equipped with an ATM network
interface module. Reliable data transfer is performed using the TCP/IP protocol with support for advanced features such as Window Scaling and Selective Acknowledge. ioNET also supports Quality of Service using RSVP when installed in a QoS-aware WAN. An optional SCPS gateway can be added for high-error-rate, high-delay links. The SCPS gateway transparently transforms ioNET TCP/IP traffic into Space Communications Protocol Standards (SCPS) Transport Protocol (TP) for reliable transmission over links with roundtrip delays as high as 700 msec and bit error rates of up to 10e-5.

LOCAL AND REMOTE SYSTEM MANAGEMENT

ioNET can be controlled using a Graphical User Interface that resides on the unit or on a remote system connected via TCP/IP. The ioNET system also provides a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) interface for integration with a
Network Operations Center. ioNET incorporates an intelligent chassis management module that monitors system status and generates event logs and/or SNMP traps when a fault is detected.
