Beginnings: Engineering Solutions
SUPPORTING AEROSPACE PROGRAMS FROM CONCEPT TO LAUNCH AND BEYOND
Avtec was founded by a group of scientists and engineers from the Space Systems Division of the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. The company has been continuously under contract since its inception to various groups within the Department of Defense (DoD) for systems engineering of space systems and subsystems. Mission and program types have included:

The scientists and engineers of Avtec's engineering services organization have provided original concepts, services and support crucial to numerous major aerospace and defense programs. Typical projects have included:

Products For Unbounded Data Communications
SATELLITE GROUND PRODUCTS, OFF-THE-SHELF
In 1991, at the request of NASA's Goddard Spaceflight Center, Avtec developed its first high-speed serial I/O Board, the HSIO2. The HSIO2 would become Avtec's first commercial off-the-shelf product and was the board that created the company's satellite ground systems group. Shortly thereafter, Avtec launched the Programmable Telemetry Processor, its first significant system-level product, to meet the needs of NASA's Deep Space Network. During the 1990s, data communications products gradually became a primary focus for the company. Today Avtec's focus is on very high data rate processing with its newly commercialized 3rd generation High Data Rate Modem (HDRM).
